HARMONY DAY
There was a great buzz around St Thomas of Villanova School in Mareeba on the last day of first term. Classes buddied with a different age group and engaged in a great program of events to celebrate Harmony Day.
Staff arranged a culturally rich smorgasbord of interactive activities.
An ‘Irish Colleen’ from our Year One teaching team, an Australian champion Irish Dancer and accomplished international performer, put on her poodle socks and pumps and demonstrated and taught staff and students the tricky steps; our PE teacher, a member of the Italian National Cricket Team, put in a man of the match performance as he set the field for international games on the oval and our Admin team organised beading, dot painting, and cooking activities.

Decorated hand templates created by students representing their family’s cultural heritage became the feature in our ‘Hands Up for Harmony’ garden. Harmony Day was a wonderful opportunity to reinforce our mission at St.Thomas’s; to respect the individuality and uniqueness of each and every member of our school community. At our school everyone is welcome and everyone belongs. Download here
